Anti-Racism at BSCTC
Our commitment
BSCTC is committed to creating a safe, inclusive, and welcoming environment that embraces diversity, equity, inclusion, belonging, and justice. BSCTC stands firm against racism in all its forms. We recognize that racism is pervasive and systemic, and we are committed to dismantling it in all its forms. We believe addressing interlocking oppressions is necessary to create a more just and equitable society. We acknowledge that this work requires ongoing education, humility, and reflection, and may sometimes be uncomfortable.
Institutional change requires courage, respect, and compassion. As an institution, we are committed to centering and amplifying the voices of those who have been marginalized or silenced. Historically, higher education has been rooted in racism, classism, and sexism, and we are committed to dismantling these systems and replacing them with ones that are equitable and just.
That Commitment is Embodied By:
- Respect all individuals’ inherent value, vitality, and dignity, regardless of their race, ethnicity, gender, sexual orientations, religion, ability, or other identity markers.
- We are identifying and addressing implicit bias, microaggressions, and other forms of systemic oppression that occur at both individual and institutional levels. We recognize that these forms of discrimination can profoundly impact the lives of our students and colleagues, and we are committed to creating a more just and equitable environment.
- We engage with intersectional, anti-racist frameworks that foster inclusion and a sense of belonging for everyone in our community. We recognize that individuals come from diverse backgrounds and experiences, and we are committed to creating an environment where everyone feels valued and heard.
- We regularly assess our policies, programs, and practices concerning Inclusive Excellence and redesign them to dismantle inequities further. We recognize that achieving equity and inclusion requires ongoing effort and investment, and we are committed to doing this work with integrity and accountability.
We understand that this is an ongoing process and that our commitment to anti-racism and equity requires continuous learning and action. We are dedicated to creating a community that is welcoming, inclusive, and free from all forms of discrimination.
