Work Ready Certificate

The BSCTC Work Ready Certificate connects classroom learning to career success by helping students develop, practice, and demonstrate the skills employers value alongside the technical knowledge of their chosen field.

Built around the Kentucky Council on Postsecondary Education’s 10 Essential Skills, the certificate gives students intentional opportunities to strengthen competencies such as communication, critical thinking, teamwork, professionalism, adaptability, quantitative reasoning, and decision-making through experiences in the classroom, Career Center, and community.

The program is a collaborative effort between Career Services, Academic Advising, faculty, employers, and students. Through career exploration, experiential learning, employer engagement, professional development, and other career-focused activities, students build skills they can carry from college into the workplace.

Students who complete the Work Ready Certificate earn digital badges that provide verified evidence of their career-readiness competencies. These credentials can be showcased on resumes, employment applications, professional portfolios, and LinkedIn profiles giving students a tangible way to communicate what they can do and how they are prepared to contribute to the workplace.

Beginning with a pilot for Electrical and HVAC students, the Work Ready Certificate represents an important step in BSCTC’s broader commitment to connecting education, career preparation, and economic mobility.
