East Kentucky Science Center

Looking for an educational experience that is out of this world? Look no further than Big Sandy Community and Technical College. The East Kentucky Science Center and Varia Planetarium serves as a hub of STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) education in eastern Kentucky. The facility is located on our Prestonsburg campus and offers an exhibit hall with hands-on STEM activities and visuals, along with the Varia Planetarium - a 40-foot dome with a Spitz Sci-Dome projection system, the state's only GOTO Star Projector, and a laser light music show system.

Are You A Teacher?

Supplement your classroom lessons with programming about robotics, animal habitats, physics, and more. Let us take you to the stars or the edge of space with a fun-filled day of learning in the Varia Planetarium. Our staff can build a lesson around your curriculum, or take advantage of a variety of lessons in science, astronomy and physics provided by our staff of instructional specialists.
