VINSON BECOMES FIRST STUDENT TO COMPLETE CLASS B CDL PROGRAM AT BSCTC

Jason Vinson, 32, of Louisa, became the first student to complete the Class B CDL program at Big Sandy Community and Technical College. To learn more about our CDL program, contact Leo Fell at (606) 788-2923 or email lfelljr0001@kctcs.edu. Jason Vinson is always looking for ways to add to his skill set.

He can add Class B CDL to that list.

Vinson, 32, of Louisa, became the first graduate of Big Sandy Community and Technical Colleges (BSCTC) Class B CDL program.

The license will allow Vinson to drive any combination of single non-axle vehicles up to 26,001 pounds. This includes, but is not limited to, dump trucks, wreckers, garbage trucks and other vehicles.

Vinson, who had no prior truck-driving experience, was excited to enroll in the program.

I went in and told the instructor, I know absolutely nothing about driving a truck like this, said Vinson.

Thats not uncommon, according to Leo Fell, who serves as an instructor of BSCTCs CDL program.

Students are sometimes apprehensive, but it is our job to teach them and encourage them, said Fell.

It didnt take long for Vinson to find his comfort level. Fell and other instructors, Johnny Ward and Brian Conley, took Vinson through the process while building his confidence.

If a person wants to do it, they can, said Fell. There is a driving position out there for everyone who has a clean CDL license, and if you keep a good driving record, you will have a great career.

Vinson said he has no regrets taking the class.

They do a great job making you feel comfortable, he said.
