United States House of Representatives recognizes Big Sandy Community and Technical College
The Honorable Hal Rogers, Representative of Kentucky to the United States House of
Representatives, recently honored Big Sandy Community and Technical College.
I ask my colleagues to join me in celebrating the tenth anniversary of the Big Sandy
Community and Technical College and the tireless efforts of educators and leaders
of the past that pioneered the path for quality post-secondary education in the mountains
of eastern Kentucky over the last seventy-five years, Rogers said.
Dr. George D. Edwards, president of BSCTC said, It is an honor for the College to
receive this recognition for this unique year in our history. And on behalf of the
students, faculty and staff, want to express my appreciation to Hal Rogers for this
tribute.
Mr. Rogers continues with his comments, Seventy-five years ago the Mayo Technical
College was established. Fifty years ago, the Prestonsburg Community College was established
in 1964. Finally ten years ago, the two institutions merged in 2003, creating the
Big Sandy Community and Technical College. I count it an honor to congratulate the
founders of these institutions on this rare triple celebration of the combined 75th,
50th and 10th anniversaries.
Throughout the year, Big Sandy Community and Technical College is celebrating its
history of educational excellence. We are proud of our history of educational progress
and dedication to strengthening the region through education. Edwards said. Although
the name has changed, the services and commitment provided to our students and community
has always and will continue to be the very purpose of our existence.
The Tribute by Hal Rogers appeared in the May 8, 2013 issue of the Congressional Record.
