STUDENTS FROM RENAISSANCE LEARNING CENTER VISIT BSCTCS HAGER HILL CAMPUS

Students from the Renaissance Learning Center visited the Hager Hill campus of Big Sandy Community and Technical College (BSCTC) on Friday, November 14.

The career day was sponsored by the colleges Workforce Solutions program and included demonstrations from the Kentucky Coal Academy and HVAC program. They also received leadership training from Bob Gound; a presentation from Brenda Cockerman from the Johnson County Extension Office; and a presentation on healthcare careers by Melissa Perry from the South East Area Health Education Center and BSCTC faculty member Teddie Ratliff.

Its always an exciting time when you can share information about careers and let the students participate in hands-on activities with our faculty members and community partners, said Kelli Hall, director of Workforce Solutions at BSCTC. We are grateful for everyone who made this event a huge success.

Students participated in coal simulator demonstrations with the Kentucky Coal Academy. The simulator allowed students to simulate the operation of equipment such as a roof bolter, continuous miner and surface mine equipment.

Gound offered students insight from John Maxwells nationally-acclaimed book Sometime you Win, Sometimes you Learn. Eric Campbell, who teaches HVAC on the Hager Hill campus of BSCTC, gave an overview of his program and the strong job market for qualified HVAC technicians.
