SPANISH TEACHERS ASSOCIATION HOSTS TRAINING WORKSHOP

male and female spanish presentors.Eight area Spanish teachers representing six area high schools and two community colleges met at Big Sandy Community and Technical College on Thursday, March 26 for a professional development workshop on a Spanish language teaching tool known as LinguaFolio.

Presenters Jason Adams from Paintsville High School and Emma Price from Lawrence County High School both presented on their use of LinguaFolio in the classroom. Each provided demonstrations on how students have developed and demonstrated Spanish language skills addressing required proficiency levels and both indicated they were impressed with how their students have been actively engaged in learning through this technology resource.

In addition to the presenters, teachers attending this event included: Remona Estep from Magoffin County High School, Gloria Newsome from Floyd County High School, Maggie Roll from Hazard High School, Tamara Kunkel from Knott County High School, Scott May from Hazard Community and Technical College, and Sandra Saad from Big Sandy Community and Technical College.

The Spanish Teachers Association meets five times each academic year for two workshops and three Spanish-language dinners to support each other in their use of the Spanish language and to share teaching tips and best practices for professional development purposes.
