SMITH, MCCLURE SELECTED TO MASTER TEACHER SEMINAR PROGRAM

Two Big Sandy Community and Technical College faculty members have been selected to the Master Teacher Seminar program.

Mathematics Professor Dwight P. Smith and Jimmy McClure, assistant professor of electronics technology, will attend an intensive three-day seminar on March 26-28 at Pineville, Ky.

The Master Teach Seminar brings together experienced faculty from all 16 Kentucky Community and Technical College institutions. It addresses topics such as: increasing student success, awareness of diversity issues and enhancing global awareness.

Smith has taught at BSCTC for 21 years. He recently made a presentation at the annual KYMATIC (Kentucky Association of Two-Year Colleges) on solving the cubic equation.

The award means a wonderful recognition for my efforts with teaching Learn by Term. But we should not forget the students, without which our courses would be meaningless, said Smith. I am also indebted to the support I have received from Dr. (George) Edwards, Dr. (Nancy) Johnson, Dr. (Patsy) Jackson and Dr. (Richard) Roe. I am also thankful to Billie Jean Cole who has worked with me on teaching Trigonometry online to area high school students. I also want to give a word of thanks to Etta Cantrell, who first introduced me to online teaching years ago, and I cannot forget Janie Beverley, who assisted me with handling online ADA students.

McClure has been at BSCTC since 2007. He said he was shocked to learn of his selection.

I am honored and thankful to receive this recognition, he said. Earning something like this never crossed my mind. My main focus here at the college has always been the students I teach and the improvement of the Electrical Technology program at Mayo. I would like to thank the committee for selecting me for this honor and most importantly I would like to thank, Dr. Edwards, Dr. Johnson, Bobby McCool and Keithen Mckenzie for the support and assistance they have provided me. Without their help, program improvement would not have been possible."
