SLONE PRESENTS AT KCEA SYMPOSIUM
Greta Heintzelman Slone, associate professor of English at Big Sandy Community and
Technical College, presented at the Kentucky Council on Education Abroad (KCEA) symposium
on Wednesday, April 16, at Gateway Community and Technical College in Florence, Ky.
Slone, a member of the Global Partnerships and International Study (GPIS) group at
the Kentucky Community and Technical College System, presented a photo journal from
a former student, Jessica Culberston, who did a learning service project at a girls
orphanage in India.
I am always inspired and empowered when I see my students respond to the needs in
the world, said Slone. Culberston, who is currently pursuing a degree in Social Work
and Social Justice at Missouri State University, is planning to work in China this
winter. Jessica has tremendous drive, courage and a heart for humanitarianism. She
is wonderful example for us all!
As the head of the Global Initiatives Committee at BSCTC, Slone is working on creating
a service learning excursion abroad in the summer of 2015.
KCEA is a state-wide consortium on learning abroad, diversifying curriculum, and providing
a globally aware college environment. KCEA includes colleges and universities from
