SKEENS ASSISTS MOUNTAIN MANOR IN EMPLOYEE COMPETENCY FAIR

SkeensMelissa Skeens, coordinator of the respiratory therapist program at Big Sandy Community and Technical College (BSCTC), assisted in an employee competency fair at Mountain Manor Nursing Home on Tuesday, September 29.

Skeens worked with the facilitys education department to complete evaluations of 19 nursing staff members. Each nurse had to demonstrate the assembly and set up of a small volume nebulizer, as well as patient assessment throughout the procedure.

It is always rewarding to get out in the field and work with our partners on providing the best care possible to the patients we serve, said Skeens. Organizations, such as Mountain Manor, are always ready and willing to help our students get the valuable experience needed to become respiratory therapists.

Skeens is working with the facility to coordinate lectures for nurses on oxygen delivery services.

Our college not only touches the lives of our students, it impacts our business community, said BSCTC President Dr. Devin Stephenson. Were proud that our programs and our people are working in the communities we serve to make a difference.
