RUSSO NAMED AS THE MARGARET NOBLE ADDRESS SPEAKER FOR MAPS

Steve Russo, director of Big Sandy Community and Technical Colleges East Kentucky Science Center and Planetarium, has been named as the Margaret Noble Address Speaker for the annual meeting of the Middle Atlantic Planetarium Society (MAPS) to be held in July at the James E. Richmond Science Center, in Waldorf, Maryland.

The Margaret Noble Address is named in honor of one of the founding members of MAPS, Margaret Noble. She was a teacher at Cardozo High School in Washington, D.C. Her particular talents in persuasion, diplomacy, persistence, and her passion for astronomy guided her efforts in bringing the universe to students.

The presenters of the Margaret Noble address exhibit similar traits and use the opportunity to share their wisdom and unique perspective on the state of planetarium education and its potential for inspiring both students and public audiences to higher aspirations in our time.

Russo has been a MAPS member for 42 years and has served the society over the years as its newsletter editor, treasurer, board member and committee chairman. He was named a MAPS Fellow in 2010, and received the MAPS Exceptional Service Award in 2012.

Past presenters of the Margaret Noble Address have included world famous scientists such as Isaac Asimov, Frank Drake and Owen Gingerich.
