LOWE NAMED DIRECTOR OF LIBRARY SERVICES

Kathy Lowe has been named Director of Library Services at Big Sandy Community and Technical College (BSCTC).

Lowe, who resides in Prestonsburg, has worked in the library at BSCTC for 21 years. She attended Prestonsburg Community College, earned her undergraduate degree in business administration from Eastern Kentucky University and completed her graduate degree in library and information studies from Florida State University.

I am honored to be chosen to lead our libraries, because I know the work we do is essential to the success of our students, said Lowe.

Dr. Nancy B. Johnson, provost at BSCTC, said Lowes dedication to student success is steadfast.

Kathy understands the evolution of libraries and the role they play in student success, she said. Libraries serve as a centerpiece to our campuses.

Lowes duties will include overseeing libraries on the Prestonsburg, Pikeville and Mayo campuses, as well as the Centers for Enrichment Resources, which provide tutoring services to students.

Embracing modern technology will be a priority for Lowe.

Libraries look deceptively the same over time, but modern libraries are on the forefront of technology and change, said Lowe. Libraries are and have always been a place where users come to find information in print. The 21st century library also provides access to information in electronic formats; librarians and staff offer assistance in evaluating information for relevance, currency and accuracy.
