KENTUCKY COAL ACADEMY SPONSORS LEADERSHIP TRAINING FOR GROUP OF FLOYD COUNTY SCHOOL EMPLOYEES

The Kentucky Coal Academy at Big Sandy Community and Technical College (BSCTC) sponsored a workshop on The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People Signature Edition 4.0 for Floyd County school administrators, faculty and staff on April 1-2 on the Hager Hill campus of BSCTC.

Bob Gound facilitated the two-day workshop. Participants learned to assess and align principles of effectiveness; assume responsibility, focus and act on what can be controlled and influenced, instead of what cant; define clear measures of success and create a plan to achieve them both in life and work; prioritize and achieve the most important goals instead of constantly reaching urgencies; collaborate more effectively with others by building high-trust relationships of mutual benefit; influence others by developing a deep understanding of their needs and perspectives; develop innovative solutions that leverage diversity and satisfy all key stakeholders; and increase motivation, energy and work/life balance by making time for renewal activities.

Jaynie Watts, assistant principal at Stumbo Elementary School, said the training changed her perspective.

The training was great and my teachers loved it, she said. It changed my perspective on how I look at everything.

Kelli Hall, director of Workforce Solutions and the Kentucky Coal Academy, said leadership training is critical in the workplace.

If you want people to lead, you have to give them the tools to lead, she said. This program gives people the tools to effectively lead themselves, influence, engage and collaborate with others, and continually improve and renew their capabilities.
