KENTUCKY COAL ACADEMY ANNOUNCES FREE RETRAININGS

Big Sandy Community and Technical College (BSCTC) and the Kentucky Coal Academy (KCA) have announced four free mine training opportunities in January.

An Underground Mine Retraining will be held from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. on January 21-22 on the Pikeville campus of BSCTC. The class will meet from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. each day.

A Mine Emergency Technician Retraining will be held from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. on January 25 on the Pikeville campus of BSCTC. The class will meet from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

On January 26, a Surface Mine Retraining will be held from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. on the Pikeville campus of BSCTC.

An Initial 40-Hour Underground Training will be held on January 27 through February 5 on the Pikeville campus of BSCTC. The class will meet from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. daily.

Kelli Hall, dean of career education and workforce development at BSCTC, said these classes are beneficial to those who are currently working in the mining industry or hope to gain employment in the mining industry.

We feel its important to provide these opportunities at no cost to those who need retraining or a certification, said Hall. The Kentucky Coal Academy is proud to support our miners and the mining industry in the Big Sandy region.
