KCTCS BOARD OF REGENTS APPROVE REVISED MISSION, VISION STATEMENTS FOR BSCTC

The board of regents of the Kentucky Community and Technical College System (KCTCS) approved a revised mission and vision statement for Big Sandy Community and Technical College (BSCTC) during its quarterly meeting on Friday, March 11.

The new statements are part of the colleges comprehensive 2016-2022 strategic plan.

It is important that we remain a forward-thinking institution with student success and community, workforce and economic development as top priorities, said BSCTC President Dr. Devin Stephenson. These revised mission and vision statements are an adequate reflection of our intention to effectively change our region one student, one opportunity at a time.

BSCTC serves more than 8,000 students annually through academic programs and its Workforce Solutions division. The college has 30 programs, including the states first broadband technology associate degree program that was announced earlier this month. It also offers more than 200 industry-leading credentials. Later this year, BSCTC will break ground on a $4.5 million Advanced Technology Center, the first of its kind in Kentucky.

The data tells us that we are clearly the first choice in higher education in our service area, added Dr. Stephenson. We cannot and will not take that for granted. Collaboratively, we are working on ways to keep our college and programs aligned with the trends of business and industry and working with those in economic and community development to keep programs relevant and cutting edge.

The colleges new vision is: As the regions premier community and technical college, Big Sandy Community and Technical College will continue to be recognized as the regions first choice of higher education, academic achievement; cultural enrichment; student success; and community, workforce and economic development.

The mission of the college is to provide accessible quality educational opportunities for student success, promotes economic growth and enhances the quality of life of its constituents.

Dr. Stephenson said careful consideration was taken on alignment of the revised mission and vision to the KCTCS mission and vision. He also added that all of the colleges goals and objectives will be tied into the revised mission and vision.

Every decision we make, every penny we spend will be tied to our strategic plan, mission, vision, values and themes, he said. This will align our thinking towards common goals, while fostering an atmosphere of dialogue, transparency and collaboration.
