JUSTICE NAMED INTERIM ASSOCIATE DEAN OF LEARNING SUPPORT SERVICES

Melinda JusticeMelinda Justice has been named interim associate dean of learning support services at Big Sandy Community and Technical College (BSCTC).

Our students and their success is a top priority, said Justice. I look forward to building on the wonderful support services we have in place to ensure student transfer, retention and success.

Justice, of Pikeville, has spent 28 years in higher education. She has worked at BSCTC for 23 years and held various positions, including associate dean of academic affairs and professor of office systems and medical information technology. For the past three years, she has served as director of transformation initiatives.

In her new role, Justice will direct transitional/developmental education, adult education, secondary initiatives and the early college academies. BSCTCs Early College Academy had its first graduating class in May, featuring eight Floyd County students earning associate degrees as high school seniors. In August, BSCTC will roll out its Early College Academy for Johnson Central and Paintsville Independent students on its Mayo campus.

We believe it is essential to provide pathways to success that helps our students overcome any barriers they encounter, said Justice.

Dr. Nancy B. Johnson, provost at BSCTC, said Justice has a long and distinguished record of serving students.

Melinda has been instrumental in developing a successful model of Early College Academies which has become a model for others across the nation to follow, said Dr. Johnson. I know she will bring that same level of commitment to the various areas she will oversee.
