JOHNSON COUNTY ARTIST ANGELIA DODERER TO BE FEATURED IN MCCALL ART GALLERY
Big Sandy Community and Technical College (BSCTC) will host an art exhibit by Johnson
County native Angelia Doderer. The exhibit will be in the Dr. Michael B. and Carolyn
S. McCall Art Gallery until Thursday, September 24.
I live in a little log cabin in the hills of Johnson County, said Doderer, an art
teacher at Our Lady of the Mountains School in Paintsville. My husband and I have
six children and two grandchildren together. As an artist, Ive painted numerous murals
and works of art. My paintings can be found in Florida and even as far as France.
I have illustrated a book titled Paw Paw Says, written by local author Bob Abrams,
published in 2011.
Doderer prefers still life painting and finds her inspiration from old dolls.
When viewing my paintings you will come across an old worn bear, that I named Raggedy.
This bear was given to me by my great grandmother Maw, said Doderer. I like to add
Raggedy to my paintings, she reminds me of my childhood. Other treasures found in
my paintings come from my home and adventures to the antique shops in down town Paintsville.
I also create whimsical childlike paintings, with trees that come to life, colorful
suns that have faces, and angels that have their eyes on you.
A reception will be held from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m., Thursday, September 24 in the McCall
Art Gallery, located in the Magoffin Learning Resource Center on the Prestonsburg
campus of BSCTC.
The McCall Art Gallery is open from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday through Thursday and 9
a.m. to noon on Friday.
