GOOD VIBRATIONS: EKSC KICKS OFF SUMMER CAMPS

Good Vibrations: The Science of Sound was a camp designed to help 4- and 5-year olds discover the world of sound.

The kids were super excited and engaged in all the activities as we experimented with the world of sound, said Susan Scott, instructional specialist for the EKSC. They even got to experience a laser show in the Planetarium and that was a wonderful treat.

The campers got to experiment with tuning forks and water, guitars, tambourines and even got to make their own instruments.

Drako, the ever-popular bearded dragon at the EKSC, even made a special appearance. Campers got up close with Drakos ears and learned how he hears.

Children entering pre-school and kindergarten

Jr. Farmers: Growing in Math and Science | June 30 | 9 a.m. to noon
Cost: Member $10/Non-Member $15
Ready, Set, Grow...your math and science skills as you explore the world of farming. Count, recognize, and graph fruits and vegetables. Explore animal and plant lifecycles, habitats, and food chains. The camp includes the Enchanted Reef planetarium show.

Children entering grades first through fourth
Jr. Space Explorers | June 9 | 9 a.m. to noon
Cost: Member $25/Non-Member $30
What does it take to be a space explorer? Come learn about space exploration as you experiment with rockets, discover your weight on other planets, tinker with space technology and even program a robot in this interactive camp that is out of this world! The camp includes the Astronaut planetarium show.

Animal Adventures: Be a Veterinarian | June 28 | 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Cost: Member $25/Non-Member $30
What do scales, fur, and exoskeletons all have in common? Theyre all part of this camp! Come learn what it takes to be a doctor of animals with special guest veterinarian Dr. Julie Tackett! Together well discover life-cycles, listen to an animals heartbeat, and learn about animal habitats as we get up-close and personal with our science center animals! Take home your own stethoscope! The camp includes the Enchanted Reef planetarium show.

Children entering grades fourth through sixth

Catch a Wave: Light, Sound, Water | June 14 | 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Cost: Member $25/Non-Member $30
What does sound, light, and water have in common? They can all travel in waves. Come catch a wave as we explore the science behind them. Investigate light using lasers and gases to see the world in a new vision. Create your own sound poppers and take home firework glasses. The camp includes the Space and Back planetarium show.

Pop, Fizz, Boom | June 7 | 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Cost: Member $25/Non-Member $30
Lets have a blast as we discover the science of explosions. Create foam
volcanoes, fire snakes, burning bubbles, and more. Is Mentos really the best ingredient for a coke geyser or would something else work better? Come find out as we test several substances and see which makes the highest coke geyser. The camp includes the Sun Struck planetarium show.

Space Exploration | June 21-22 | 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Cost: Member $40/Non-Member $50
Do you ever look up at the stars and wonder what is up there? Come explore the far reaches of space and build and launch your own rocket in our study of the sky and space exploration! The camp includes the Oasis in Space planetarium show.

Memberships for the EKSC are available. They include free admission to more than 300 science centers and museums worldwide, a 10 percent discount in the EKSC gift shop and discounted rates for camps and special events. Rates are $25 for student membership, $50 for value membership (two individuals), $60 for grandparent membership (two grandparents and two grandchildren) and $75 for family membership (up to four individuals).
