FLOYD COUNTY ADULT EDUCATION HOLDS GRADUATION

Floyd County Adult Education held a graduation ceremony for students who completed their General Education Diploma (GED) during the 2014-15 academic year on Thursday, June 18 on the Prestonsburg campus of Big Sandy Community and Technical College (BSCTC).

We offer our most sincere congratulatory wishes to the students on this wonderful accomplishment, said BSCTC President Dr. Devin Stephenson. My hope is that students use this experience to build a bright future.

Lynn Hall, director of Floyd County Adult Education, told students to cherish the moment.

The [GED] test isnt easy, she said. So many people helped you get here today. Your instructors worked with you, and this is much more than a job to them. They are celebrating alongside you.

Melinda Justice, interim associate dean of learning support services at BSCTC, was the keynote speaker.

You have taken this step, she told the graduates. Now, look where you have been and where you want to go. This diploma is something no one can take away from you. You earned it, and there were many people that helped you along the way. Make sure you thank those people.
Charla Dunn, of Martin, was one of the graduates. She plans on attending BSCTC in the fall and hopes to become a medical lab technician.

Im just thankful for this opportunity, said Dunn, who is pregnant with her second child. Everyone was so helpful and supportive. When I felt like giving up, someone was always there to help pick me up.

Members of the graduating class were: Charla Dunn, Jordan Cunnagin, Gabriel Fields, Anthony Hallam, Chelsie Johnson, Cortney Luther, Gregory Music, Nathaniel Ray and Courtnea Wireman.
