FLORIDA SCIENCE EXPERT VISITS EKSC JUNIOR SPACE EXPLORERS CAMP

Karen Melesky, a science and astronomy expert from Florida, served as a guest instructor during the Junior Space Explorers camp at Big Sandy Community and Technical Colleges East Kentucky Science Center and Planetarium on Thursday, June 9.We have ignition. We have go. We have liftoff for the Junior Space Explorers camp at Big Sandy Community and Technical Colleges East Kentucky Science Center and Planetarium (EKSC) on Thursday, June 9.

Campers kicked off the day learning how to make a constellation tube; learning about meteors; looking at the sun with special glasses; and learning their weight on all the different planets.

Karen Malesky, a Florida native, served as a special guest instructor.

It was great having Karen [Malesky] as a guest instructor at our camp, said Steve Russo, director of the East Kentucky Science Center. We taught Astronomy together back in the early 1980s at the South Florida Museum and Bishop Planetarium in Bradenton, Fla. Karen comes to us with more than 30 years experience teaching in science museums and planetariums, and also wrote some of the Science Standards for the state of Florida. She gave us ideas for new lessons to do.
