EKSC TO PARTNER WITH ALLTECH TO HOST SUPER SCIENCE SATURDAY

The East Kentucky Science Center and Planetarium, powered by Appalachian Wireless, will host Super Science Saturday featuring Alltech on Saturday, March 7.

The free event will begin at 10 a.m. and take place at the East Kentucky Science Center, located on the Prestonsburg campus of Big Sandy Community and Technical College (BSCTC), and will feature Alltechs Educational Outreach Specialist Miranda Woodall.

Participants will learn about DNA, what it looks like and why it is important. Woodall will teach participants how to extract DNA from strawberries. The event, which starts at 10 a.m., will feature hands-on activities centering on Alltechs core technologies, as well as planetarium and laser shows.

We really want to spark that interest in science for children of all ages, said Woodall.

Education is a pillar of Alltech and highly valued inside and outside the company. The East Kentucky Science Center and Planetarium is the regions premier facility that provides visitors innovative and interactive platforms to explore STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) subjects and careers. The planetarium features a 40-foot dome and the Spitz Sci-Dome projection system, one of only two dozen in the world. Additionally, the planetarium has the states only GOTO Star Projector, which brings space exploration to life for visitors. The center is one of only three planetariums in the world to host the show To Space and Back.
