EKSC SELECTED TO HOST BUILDING WITH BIOLOGY EVENT

The East Kentucky Science Center and Varia Planetarium (EKSC) has been selected as one of 200 sites in the United States to host a Building with Biology event.

Steve Russo, director of the EKSC, said the event will take place between June and September.

The purpose of the Building with Biology project is to create conversations among scientists and public audiences about the emerging field of synthetic biology and it societal implications, said Russo.

Synthetic biology uses new techniques combining biology and engineering to make new or modified living things and materials. The field is exploring where biology-based products might provide solutions to a wide diversity of problems in health, energy and the environment.
