Early Childhood Fair

The Floyd County Community Early Childhood Council coordinated an Early Childhood Fair on the Prestonsburg campus of Big Sandy Community and Technical College on May 18, 2013.

One hundred families made up of nearly 150 adults and more than 184 children attended the 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. event focusing on school readiness. Various community agencies shared pertinent information and ideas with parents about safety, health and wellness and early childhood development.

Parents completed their children's enrollment applications for the 2013-2014 school year and obtained necessary screenings with Floyd County Head Start and Preschool staff. Area health providers conducted speech/language, hearing, vision, developmental and adult health screenings as well as childrens physicals.

Childrens laughter filled the air in the big tent as they watched circus performers, magicians and jugglers. After the face painting session, the children visited the petting zoo and enjoyed miniature pony rides.

All services and activities were provided without cost to the participants through a KIDS Now grant awarded to the Floyd County Council and area sponsors. For more information about the Council, please visit: https://www.sites.google.com/site/floydcountycommunityecc/.
