    BSCTC TO HOST SUPER SUNDAY COLLEGE FAIR FEB. 28 IN PIKEVILLE

    Martez Mackay, 23, of Louisville, is this years Super Sunday Hall of Fame recipient. Big Sandy Community and Technical College will host its Super Sunday College Fair at the Church of God MPG of T at noon, Sunday, February 28.Big Sandy Community and Technical College (BSCTC) will host its sixth-annual Super Sunday event at noon, Sunday, February 28, at the Church of God MPG of T in Pikeville. Super Sunday is a student recruitment initiative specifically targeting African-American and Latino students.

    BSCTC will join Kentucky Community and Technical College System colleges across the state to connect with prospective college students and their families.

    Super Sunday helps to eliminate the roadblocks many students face when pursuing their higher education goals, said KCTCS President Jay Box. Through our partnerships, we are able to encourage youth to pursue their dreams directly from the pulpit.

    Dr. Devin Stephenson, president of BSCTC, said Super Sunday presents an opportunity for the college to spread its message of quality higher education close to home to the African-American and Latino communities in the Big Sandy region.

    A college education is not out of reach for anyone, said Dr. Stephenson. Since 2008, more than 24,000 first-generation college students have enrolled at BSCTC. Through financial aid and scholarships, students can attend college, complete a degree, further their education or earn a credential and go to work.

    Martez Mackey is this years Super Sunday Hall of Fame recipient from Big Sandy Community and Technical College (BSCTC).

    Mackey, 23, graduated from BSCTC in 2014 with a diploma in construction carpentry as well as certificates in the following areas: carpenter helper, construction forms helper, residential site layout assistant, residential roofer, residential carpenter basic carpenter and rough carpenter. During his time as BSCTC, he was actively involved in the colleges Multi-Cultural Student (MSO) organization.

    Attending Big Sandy made me realize that I could dream big, said Mackey, who now lives in Louisville and works for Toyota. Being the Super Sunday Hall of Fame recipient is an honor.

    Mackey said life is about choices and the decision to attend BSCTC was life changing.

    Tina Terry, director of cultural diversity at BSCTC, said Mackey demonstrated a commitment to success from the time he enrolled at BSCTC.
