BSCTC TO HOST DISCUSSION HOW TO GROW YOUR COMPASSION BY BUDDHIST MONK
Big Sandy Community and Technical College (BSCTC) and the Global Studies and International Partnerships (GSIP) at the Kentucky Community and Technical College System will sponsor a presentation How to Grow your Compassion by Tsering Phuntsok. The presentation by Phuntsok, who has been a practicing Buddhist monk for the past 23 years, will be at 3 p.m., Tuesday, March 1, at the East Kentucky Science Center and Varia Planetarium.
Residing in the foothills of the Himalayan Mountains in Dharamsala, India, Phuntsoks home is less than a minute walk from the temple and residence of the H.H. Dalai Lama.
We hope this presentation will begin a dialogue on human compassion and what it means in our lives here in our mountains, said Greta Heintzelman Slone, an assistant professor of English at BSCTC. The Buddhist faith is intriguing and their notions of compassion and meditative practices will be discussed in great detail.
Phuntsoks work is very well-known in India, especially in causes related to health. His projects include the solar hot water for young students and mold remediation to help with respiratory condition.
