BSCTC TO HOST COMMENCEMENT CEREMONIES ON MAY 6-7

Big Sandy Community and Technical College (BSCTC) will award more than 1,100 degrees, diplomas and credentials to more than 400 students during commencement ceremonies on May 6-7 at the Mountain Arts Center.

General education and technical education students will participate in ceremonies at 7 p.m., Friday, May 6 and at 2 p.m., Saturday, May 7. A commencement and pinning ceremony for allied health graduates (nursing, dental hygiene and respiratory therapy) will be held at 10 a.m., Saturday, May 7.

Graduation day is the culmination of months and years of hard work and dedication, said Dr. Devin Stephenson, president of BSCTC. Each candidate for graduation has a distinct story, but on this day, they will converge at a common destination a launching pad to a successful future of possibilities and promise!"

Secretary of State Alison Lundergan Grimes will serve as the keynote speaker for the May 6 ceremony. Jared Arnett, executive director of SOAR (Shaping Our Appalachian Region), will serve as the keynote speaker for the May 7 afternoon ceremony.

The graduation will mark the first graduating class of the Johnson County/Paintsville Early College Academy. It will also be the third graduating class of the Floyd County Early College Academy. The programs 11 graduates have accumulated more than $700,000 in scholarships this year.
