BSCTC TO HOST BALLOON RELEASE IN MEMORY OF PROFESSOR DR. BILL LOFTUS

In memory of our professor, our colleague and our friend, Dr. Bill Loftus.

Big Sandy Community and Technical College (BSCTC) will host a balloon release in memory of Dr. Bill Loftus at 6:30 p.m., Friday, April 1, on the Prestonsburg campus at the Varia Gazebo.

Dr. Loftus, 64, passed away on Monday, March 21 at his home in Prestonsburg. He served as a professor of psychology at BSCTC for more than 25 years. He lived a life on the foundations of servant leadership with his students, the college and the community. He served as advisor for the colleges Phi Theta Kappa program for 20 years and was named 2016 Advisor Emeritus by the organization.

Dr. Loftus was influential in many projects at the college. Aside from serving as a dedicated advisor of our Phi Theta Kappa chapter for many years, he sponsored a soup kitchen for students; and worked in the colleges community garden, said BSCTC President Dr. Devin Stephenson. His impact on higher education and community service has been integral to building young citizens for decades, and his legacy of servant leadership will continue through the many lives he touched.

The balloon release is open the community. Those impacted by Dr. Loftus will have the opportunity to share a message or memory on the balloon prior to the release. Additionally, the event will kick off a month-long random acts of kindness campaign in memory of Dr. Loftus. Those interested in participating can post their photo to social media with hashtag #ForBill.
