BSCTC TO HOST APPALACHAIN BOLD CAMPS IN JUNE

Dr. Tom Vierheller and Dr. Chenzhao Vierheller, biology professors at Big Sandy Community and Technical College, will conduct Appalachian BOLD camps June 8-11, June 15-18 and June 22-25 on the Prestonsburg campus of BSCTC.  The camps are free and open to children entering the seventh and eighth grades. Big Sandy Community and Technical College (BSCTC) in conjunction with the East Kentucky Science Center and Planetarium and the University of Kentucky will host Appalachian BOLD (Bioeconomy, Outreach, Leadership and Development) camps for seventh and eighth graders in June.

The free camps will run June 8-11, June 15-18 and June 22-25 and will be held on the Prestonsburg campus of BSCTC.

Our camps will focus on what the future workforce will look like with diversified science and technology, said Dr. Tom Vierheller, professor of Biology at BSCTC. The Appalachian BOLD camps are funded through a grant from the National Science Foundation. We will also explore how Molecular Biology and Renewable Biomolecules are developed through interactive laboratory sessions.
