BSCTC TO HOLD REGISTRATION BLITZ DEC. 15-16

NEW STUDENTS ENCOURAGED TO COMPLETE ADMISSIONS APPLICATION; MEET WITH ADVISOR

Are you a high school graduate undecided about college; a former college student wanting to return and complete a degree or credential; or a displaced worker looking to retool and reenter the workforce?

Big Sandy Community and Technical College (BSCTC) has your answers.

New students are encouraged to start the registration process as soon as possible. The first step is completing an admissions application online at http://bigsandy.kctcs.edu/Admissions/How_to_Apply.aspx. Students can also complete the admission application on the Prestonsburg, Pikeville and Mayo campuses. Advisors will be on hand to assist in choosing a career path, financial aid and other steps in the enrollment process.

New and returning students can take advantage of a Registration Blitz on December 15-16 from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. on all campuses (Prestonsburg, Pikeville, Mayo and Hager Hill)

Classes start on Monday, January 11, 2016.

Every four-year public institution in the state raised their tuition this year except the 16 schools that comprise the Kentucky Community and Technical College System (KCTCS). The average yearly tuition at BSCTC is more than $5,000 less than that of four-year public state institutions.

Its important that we keep the dream of an education within reach, said BSCTC President Dr. Devin Stephenson. We want to ensure our students receive a quality education that leads to gainful employment and/or successful transfer to a four-year institution.

BSCTC offers 30 programs and more than 200 industry-leading credentials. Students have the option to take advantage of flexible scheduling, online courses and online degree options.

Jimmy Wright, dean of student affairs, said new students should take advantage of completing an admissions application and meeting with an advisor sooner rather than later.

Our goal is to provide excellent service to the students, said Wright. We have information on hand that will walk the students through the enrollment process step by step.

The college offers a variety of services to students. Beyond standard financial aid, the college distributes more than $350,000 in scholarships and waivers annually through the Big Sandy College Educational Foundation, Inc. Programs such as Ready to Work and Work and Learn provide financial assistance and work-study opportunities for Kentucky Transitional Assistance Program (KTAP) participants who want to return to school. Accelerating Opportunity Kentucky allows students to take adult education and technical training simultaneously to work towards an industry-leading credential.
