BSCTC PROFESSOR NAMED TO DISTINGUISHED EDUCATORS HALL OF FAME

Dr. Bill Loftus, professor of psychology at Big Sandy Community and Technical College, was inducted into the Distinguished Educators Hall of Fame on Tuesday, October 27 at the University of Pikeville. He is shown with Dr. Devin Stephenson, president of Big Sandy Community and Technical College, Judy Stephenson and his wife, Teresa Apel.Dr. Bill Loftus, professor of psychology at Big Sandy Community and Technical College (BSCTC), was inducted into the University of Pikevilles Distinguished Educators Hall of Fame on Tuesday, October 27 in the Booth Auditorium.

I teach to awaken the potential within others, said Dr. Loftus, who has taught at BSCTC for 26 years. The basis of my teaching philosophy is the belief that teaching is rooted in the art of helping an individual reveal to themselves their aspirations in life, and I accomplish this by establishing the respect and trust that these goals can be achieved.

Dr. Loftus, the 2013 recipient of the ACORN Award for Faculty Excellence, spent 20 years leading the Phi Theta Kappa honors society at BSCTC. He was recognized as the International Hallmark Distinguished Advisor award, three Kentucky Regional Advisor of the Year Awards, seven Horizon awards and the prestigious Mosal award.

Dr. Devin Stephenson, president of BSCTC, said Dr. Loftus has an unwavering commitment to students and their success.

Dr. Loftus has a passion for the teaching profession, said Dr. Stephenson. Thats evident to anyone who talks to him. He truly puts the students first and works to bring out the best in everyone he comes into contact with.

Dr. Loftus is married to his wife of 42 years, Teresa Apel, and they have one adult son, Balin Loftus.
