BSCTC PARTICIPATES IN MARTIN COUNTY HARVEST FESTIVAL
Big Sandy Community and Technical College (BSCTC) participated in the Martin County Harvest Festival on September 18-19 in Inez, Ky.The festival, sponsored by the Martin County Kiwanis Club, featured arts, crafts, entertainment and food.
BSCTC had an informational booth at the festival and participated in the parade. Dr. Devin Stephenson, president of BSCTC and wife, Judy, worked the booth on Saturday, September 19 and participated in the parade.
Its refreshing to come out and meet those people in the community that you impact each day, said Dr. Stephenson. Martin County is important to us, and we want everyone in the county to know that we are their first choice when it comes to higher education.
What else was refreshing? The Martin County Kiwanis Club lemonade, said Dr. Stephenson. Ive had some good lemonade, but that may have been the best.
BSCTC and Martin County Schools launched the Martin County Early College Academy in August. The program will allow 10 students annually to attend BSCTC and work towards obtaining an associate degree and high school diploma simultaneously.
In the short time I have been at the college, I have been so impressed by the strong community ties we have in our service area, said Dr. Stephenson. Its been a pleasure to visit the communities we serve, and Judy and I hope to attend many events and meet the great people that make eastern Kentucky so special.
