Big Sandy Community and Technical College (BSCTC) hosted a retirement celebration for Provost Dr. Nancy Johnson on Thursday, March 24, on the Prestonsburg campus.

Dr. Johnson has worked in community colleges in Kentucky for nearly four decades. She spent 20 years at Maysville Community College and transferred to Prestonsburg Community College, now Big Sandy Community and Technical College, in 1998 as acting dean of academic affairs. She has served as provost since 2005.

Dr. Johnson believes in the promise offered by the community and technical college the hope not only to the students who seek a better future but also to the communities served for improved economic development and growth, said BSCTC President Dr. Devin Stephenson. Since its inception, the community college has brought opportunities to those who did not believe they had an opportunity. This is what she has dedicated her life to enhancing in whatever ways possible.

Dr. Johnsons husband, Jim, and her 102-year-old mother, Ada, were on hand for the ceremony.

I was so incredibly honored by the reception and all of the people with whom I have worked these many years, said Dr. Johnson. I have had what I consider to be a stellar career so many wonderful experiences and so many wonderful people who shared it with me. The students and my colleagues as well as community members have blessed and enriched my life and I shall carry that in my heart always.

Myra Elliott, dean of academic affairs; Jimmy, Wright, dean of student affairs; and Chris Daniel, dean of institutional effectiveness and research, each presented Dr. Johnson with a gift honoring her service to the college.

The presidents cabinet made a $495 contribution to the Dr. Nancy B. Johnson Scholarship.
