BSCTC HOSTS ALUMNI HOMECOMING, TASTE OF THE BIG SANDY AND FIRST LADYS BRUNCH

The First Ladys brunch raised nearly $1,000 for the alumni scholarship. Judy Stephenson, wife of Dr. Devin Stephenson, helped orchestrate a menu of southern favorites. The Stephensons are from Alabama.

This truly feels like home, said Judy. The people here have welcomed us with open arms, and I truly appreciate the genuine hospitality shown by everyone.

Dr. Devin Stephenson announced a scholarship giving campaign during the First Ladys brunch. The college is in the process of applying for the Goldman Sachs Gives grant. He has set a goal of $50,000 and pledged the first $1,000 to the campaign, which, if awarded, will be matched by Goldman Sachs Gives.

Our students face so many financial barriers, said Dr. Devin Stephenson. Many times a scholarship may be the difference in whether not a student can complete a degree or credential.

Since 2008, BSCTC has served more than 21,000 first-generation college students. The Goldman Sachs Gives campaign will go towards awarding scholarships to first-generation college students.

The Taste of the Big Sandy Region was a showcase of restaurants from across the colleges service area. Restaurants participating were: Blue Raven, Renos, Shoneys, Applebees, Roasted, Bank 253, Peking, Texas Roadhouse, All Good Things and More, Maddies Old Time Fudge, Pig In a Poke, Billy Rays, Sandys and Long Branch.

Were fortunate enough to have some fine eating establishments across the region, said Dr. Devin Stephenson. We appreciate their willingness to participate in our event and we hope to make this an annual event.

The Big Sandy Singers and Band performed during the Alumni Homecoming. Dr. Devin Stephenson, a classically trained pianist, played along.

Its so much fun joining our talented student musicians and singers, he said.
