BSCTC HOSTS 2 SMART 4 DRUGS ACADEMIC MEET

Big Sandy Community and Technical College (BSCTC) held the 2 Smart 4 Drugs academic meet on its Pikeville campus on Saturday, October 11.

The event was sponsored by the BSCTC Academic Team, UNITE Pike, Community Trust Bank, Rep. Leslie Combs, City of Pikeville, Karen Kelly, Pikeville City Commissioner Barry Chaney, Tom Wright and UMG. More than 200 students from nine schools participated in the event.

Pikeville finished first in the overall varsity meet, followed by Belfry and Letcher Central. In junior varsity action, East Ridge took home first place honors, followed by Shelby Valley, Knott Central and Pike Central.

Perry County Central High School brought home top honors in a special video project that encouraged students to resist drugs. East Ridge was second and Cordia was third.

Varsity Competition
Language Arts: Noor Ali, Pikeville; Matt Mills, Belfry; and Abby Gannon, Belfry.

Math: Eashwar Soma, Belfry; Jordan Belcher, Shelby Valley; and Noah Blair, Letcher County Central.

Arts and Humanities: Noor Ali, Pikeville; Michael Gaunt, Pikeville; and Allison Salyer, Shelby Valley.
