BSCTC HOLDS 13TH ANNUAL HONORS NIGHT CELEBRATION

Big Sandy Community and Technical College held its 13th annual Honors Night on Thursday, April 17, on its Mayo campus.

Students were recognized for making the Deans List and Presidents List, as well as distinctions such as members of Phi Theta Kappa, Honors Program and Whos Who in American Junior Colleges.

Dr. George D. Edwards, president and CEO of Big Sandy Community and Technical College, told students to savor this celebration of their accomplishments.

You should be very proud of your recognition, he said. As you celebrate, so do the ones closest to you. It takes a lot of support to get to this point, and Im sure each of you have someone or even a group of people who are celebrating alongside you tonight.

Toufic Saad, a professor of mathematics and back-to-back winner of the Great Teacher Award, told students they got to this point through hard work, tenacity and dedication.

Our paths take different twists and turns, but we are all working for a better future, he told students. Tomorrow, do something important because you exchange a day of your life for it.

Matthew Roberts, a member of the Honors Program, told his classmates that the ceremony was the first stop in a long academic journey.

I want to thank people like Matt Smith (Honors Program coordinator) Dr. (George) Edwards and the faculty at Big Sandy for giving us the tools and support to have a true academic experience, he said.

Dimitri Bien-Aime, a member of Phi Theta Kappa, told his classmates he has a dream to chase. A student at the Carl D. Perkins Job Corp Center, Bien-Aime is from Haiti.

I have a dream of a world where everyone can have an education and be free, he said. I am free to manage my own destiny. Ill never stop dreaming and fighting for my future.

Bien-Aime and Michelle Waller were recognized for being named to the All USA Academic Team and All KCTCS Academic Team.
