BSCTC has extended registration for Dental Assisting program

Big Sandy Community and Technical College has extended registration for its Dental Assisting program. The program is offered on the Prestonsburg campus as well as the London campus of Somerset Community College.

The Dental Assisting program prepares the student to function as a dental assistant under the supervision of a dentist. As a member of the dental health team, the dental assistant is responsible for providing such services as assisting the dentist with operative and surgical procedures, manipulation of dental materials, taking radiographs, providing oral health instructions and performing office management tasks.

According to the Federal Bureau of Labor Statistics, the need for Dental Assistants is expected to grow 18 percent through 2024. The median wage is $35,980, or $17.30 an hour. Financial Aid is available to students who qualify.
