BSCTC, COMMUNITY COME TOGETHER TO REMEMBER DR. BILL LOFTUS

Faculty, staff and students at Big Sandy Community and Technical College, as well as members of the community release balloons in memory of Dr. Bill Loftus on Friday, April 1 on the Prestonsburg campus. Faculty, staff and students of Big Sandy Community and Technical College (BSCTC), as well as members of the community came together to remember the life of Dr. Bill Loftus at a balloon release on Friday, April 1 and a Circle of Love event on Monday, April 4 on the Prestonsburg campus.

Loftus, a professor of psychology, passed away on Monday, March 21. He taught at the college for more than 25 years.

The college held a balloon release in honor of Dr. Loftus. Those who attended were given white balloons, in honor of Dr. Loftus trademark white tennis shoes, and were able to write a special message before the release.

It was symbolic that the balloons were released after BSCTC President Dr. Devin Stephenson echoed the words that ended every Dr. Loftus email Thanks, and later.

Dr. Loftus was an iconic figure on this campus, said Dr. Stephenson. His work touched the lives of everyone and his legacy will continue through the work of others.

Dr. Stephenson announced that during the month of April the college will use the hashtag #ForBill on social media and encouraged others to do acts of kindness in memory of Dr. Loftus.

The Circle of Love event was symbolic of the program of the same name that Dr. Loftus helped to create during his two decades as an advisor of the colleges Phi Theta Kappa program.
Members of the Student Government Association presented Dr. Loftus wife, Teresa, with a check for $150 to the Fishes and Loaves Food pantry at the St. James Episcopal Church, a charity that was near and dear to Dr. Loftus heart.
