BURCHETT FEATURED ARTIST IN ART GALLERY: The eclectic work of Martha Burchett will be displayed in the Art Gallery at Big Sandy Community and Technical College through February 15. The gallery is located in the Magoffin Learning Resource Center on its Prestonsburg campus.
A reception will be held for Burchett on Thursday, January 23, from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. The event is free and there will be free refreshments.

MLK SOLIDARITY MARCH: Big Sandy Community and Technical College (BSCTC), in conjunction with the Church of God Militant, Pillar and Ground of Truth church of Pikeville, will conduct a Solidarity March on Monday, January 20, to commemorate the life and legacy of the late Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.
The march will begin at 11 a.m. at the First Baptist Church in Pikeville and will conclude at the Pikeville City Park, where Pastor Justin Preston, of the Blackman Chapel A.M.E. Zion Church in Clinchco, Va., will recite Dr. Kings I have a dream speech. Gene Layne, pastor of the Church of God Militant, Pillar and Ground of Truth, will be the keynote speaker and talk about Dr. Kings legacy and what it means today.

BIG SANDY IDOL HOME AND PRIVATE SCHOOL AUDITIONS: Big Sandy Idol will hold auditions for home-school and private school students on Thursday, January 28, from 3:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. in the Gearheart Auditorium on the Prestonsburg campus of Big Sandy Community and Technical College.

RESPIRATORY PRE-ADMISSION CONFERENCES: Big Sandy Community and Technical College will hold a pre-admission conference for its Respiratory Therapy program at 10 a.m., Wednesday, January 29 in the conference room on the Hager Hill campus.
Other pre-admission conferences will be held at noon, Friday, February 7 on the Mayo campus (Room 202, Building D); at 4 p.m., Wednesday, February 12 on the Prestonsburg campus (Room 221, Post-Secondary Building); and 3:30 p.m. Thursday, February 20 on the Pikeville campus (Room N215).

BSCTC LIBRARY TO HOST BIANCA SPRIGGS: Big Sandy Community and Technical College Library Seminar Series will host a Black History Month presentation featuring Bianca Spriggs at 12:25 p.m., Thursday, February 13, in the Art Gallery located in the Magoffin Learning Resource Building on the Prestonsburg campus. The Thirteen is a multimedia narrative which pays homage to thirteen black women and girls who were lynched or otherwise violently murdered throughout Kentucky during the late 19th and early 20th centuries. The Thirteen will include a sampling of film, music, visual art and poetry.

WORLD OF CINEMA: Big Sandy Community and Technical College will host a presentation on A World of Cinema by Michelle Fields at 9:30 a.m., Wednesday, February 26, in the Art Gallery located in the Magoffin Learning Resource Center on the Prestonsburg campus.
The event is a part of the 1914 Centenary, which is a commemoration of the 100th anniversary of the beginning of World War I.

JOIN US IN EASTERN EUROPE: Have you ever wanted to travel abroad, but feared doing it alone? Have you ever dreamed of the perfect trip? Big Sandy Community and Technical College Professor Matt Smith will be leading a group of students and community members on a trip to Eastern Europe in May. The tour includes stops in Hungary, Poland and the Czech Republic. The group will explore the effects of World War II in Krakow and Auschwitz. The trip will end with a two-day stay in Vienna, Austria. The trip cost is $3,400 for students and $3,600 for adults over 30.
