BSCTC ANNOUNCES GREAT TEACHER AWARD RECIPIENTS

Professor Tammy Ball and Associate Professor Laura Ford Hall were honored with the prestigious Great Teacher Award during a commencement ceremony held by Big Sandy Community and Technical College (BSCTC) at the Mountain Arts Center on Friday, May 8.

Ball, a licensed clinical social worker, is coordinator of the Human Services program and has worked at the college for 14 years. She also teaches courses in social work and gender studies. As a founding member of the colleges Community Garden, Ball, with a group of faculty and staff helped distribute more than 2,000 pounds of fresh produce to local food pantries last year. As advisor of the C.A.R.E. Club, Ball and her students participate in a variety of activities every year, including the preparation and serving of a Thanksgiving meal to residents of the WestCare shelter in Pikeville.

Hall, who teaches communications, has worked at the college for 11 years. She created the Big Sandy Singers and the Big Sandy Idol program. Additionally, Hall chairs the orientation of new employees at BSCTC and assists with music programs at the college, including the Little Sandy Singers and the Big Sandy Stars Talent Showcase.
