Tammy Ball, LCSW is the coordinator of the Human Services program at Big Sandy Community and Technical College. Tammy Ball, LCSW, professor and coordinator of the human services program at Big Sandy Community and Technical College, presented at the Kentucky Association of Gerontology conference at the Hilton Garden Inn in Pikeville on Sunday, April 27.

Her presentation focused on ethics and outlined specific challenges with the elder population, including demographics, obligations of caregiver intervention and context. Ball also highlighted basic principles of ethics in elder abuse such as autonomy, self-determination, paternalism and preventative ethics.

Caregivers face so many challenges when caring for the elderly, especially those family members who are faced with doing this and other responsibilities inside and outside of the home, said Ball. My presentation served as an interactive blueprint to the many issues facing the elderly and those who care for them.

Ball, who earned her undergraduate degree from Indiana University and graduate degree from the University of Louisville, became a Licensed Clinical Social Worker in 2000. In 2010, she earned a certificate in Gender Studies from Western Kentucky University.
