Appalachian Regional Commission Co-Chair Earl Gohl visits BSCTC

Appalachian Regional Commission (ARC) Co-Chair Earl F. Gohl visited Big Sandy Community and Technical College (BSCTC) as part of the National Association of Community College Entrepreneurships (NACCE) conference.

The two-day event, sponsored by the Appalachian Regional Commission, was held on the Prestonsburg campus of BSCTC on November 17-18.

I have known Chairman Gohl for a number of years, and we are fortunate to have such an advocate for Appalachia working for us, said BSCTC President Dr. Devin Stephenson. We were honored to have him on our campuses.

Dr. Stephenson awarded Gohl with the prestigious Honorary Presidents Ambassador Award on Thursday, November 17.

Chairman Gohls commitment to all of Appalachia inspires all of us each day, said Dr. Stephenson. He is a man of great integrity, and it was an honor to present him with a token of our appreciation for his work on our behalf in Washington.

Gohl took a tour of the Interapt TechHire East Kentucky facility on the colleges Mayo campus. It was his first look at the innovative public-private partnership that is training displaced workers for rewarding computer programming jobs.

The ARC awarded the TechHire program $2.75 million to sustain the initiative for three years. The first class of 50 students are currently in training and those who successfully complete the training and assessments will be offered positions with Interapts Eastern Kentucky division.
