AFFRILACHIAN POET BIANCA SPRIGGS - March 30

Bianca SpriggsThe Library Seminar Series and Office of Cultural Diversity at Big Sandy Community and Technical College (BSCTC) will present Affrilachian poet Bianca Spriggs at 1:50 p.m., Monday, March 30, at the Dr. Michael B. and Carolyn S. McCall Art Gallery on the Prestonsburg campus of BSCTC.

Spriggs presentation is entitled: Redefining the Region: Pushing Poetry through Cultural Space. .

In tradition of the Black Arts movements, Harlem Renaissance and other literary and creative pursuits, Spriggs reveals relationships that link identity to familial roots, cultural development, socio-economic stratification, political influence and inherent connection to the land. Her presentation discusses the legacy of their work in Kentucky and the Appalachian region within the context of how poetry challenges boundaries and borders erected by public perception and historically-steeped prejudices.
