Big Sandy Community and Technical College President Honored by American Association of Community Colleges
Big Sandy Community and Technical College President/CEO Dr. Sherry Zylka was recently honored by the American Association of Community Colleges (AACC) at their annual convention in Dallas, Texas as one of 32 new community college presidents.
The AACC is the primary advocacy organization for the nation’s community colleges. The association represents nearly 1,200 two-year, associate degree-granting institutions and more than 12 million students. Mary S. Graham, chair of the AACC Board of Directors and president of Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College, presented Dr. Zylka with a token of appreciation at the Convention’s Hail and Farewell Luncheon which recognized retiring presidents as well as new presidents.
Dr. Sherry Zylka began her tenure as President/CEO at Big Sandy Community and Technical in October of 2017. Zylka, a community college graduate herself, had served previously as provost of Wayne County Community College District in Detroit. She had also served in various higher education leadership positions, including dean of College Centers and Workforce Development and Continuing Education at Schoolcraft College in Livonia and Garden City, Michigan.
