Selective Admission Criteria - Dental Assisting/Dental Hygiene

Both the Dental Assisting and Dental Hygiene are selective admission programs, meaning that a separate admission process is required for each program to select its students. If you are applying to both programs, you will need to submit two separate applications. 
 
To be eligible for selective admission in Dental Assisting you must have at least an 18 composite score on the ACT and a minimum GPA of 3.0 in 14 credit hours of program pre-requisite courses. Preference is awarded to Dental Assisting applicants with a 21 ACT composite score  or higher, a 3.0 GPA in 14 hours of program pre-requisite courses, and a final grade of A, B, or C in BIO 135 or BIO 137/139 (A= 4 points, B=3 points, C= 2 points per course).
 
To be eligible for selective admission in Dental Hygiene, you must have at least an 18 composite score on the ACT and a minimum GPA of 3.0 in 18 credit hours of program pre-requisite courses.  Preference is awarded to Dental Hygiene applicants with a 21 ACT composite score or higher, a 3.0 GPA in 18 hours of program pre-requisite courses, and a final grade of A, B, or C in BIO 137, BIO 139, and BIO 225 (A= 4 points, B=3 points, C= 2 points per course). Preference is also awarded to Dental Hygiene applicants who have completed DAH 121 and/or DAH 135 with a final grade of A or B.  Finally, preference is awarded if a hygiene applicant passes any of the three sections of the Dental Assisting National Board (DANB). Three points per section passed is awarded. 
 
Dental Assisting accepts either BIO 135 OR BIO 137 & BIO 139. Dental Hygiene accepts only BIO 137 & BIO 139.  These Anatomy & Physiology courses must be completed by the application deadline, and must also have been completed within the past 10 years.
