A group of students from the Electrical Technology program at Big Sandy Community and Technical College’s (BSCTC) Pikeville campus toured the Toyota manufacturing plant in Georgetown, Ky. on March 27-28.
The students, led by Professor Joe Compton, were given a tour by Toyota Team Leader Kenneth Holbrook, a 2011 graduate of BSCTC. Holbrook began his career at Toyota as a Body Weld upon his graduation and oversees robots and equipment.
“It’s great to see our graduates in the field utilizing what they have learned at Big Sandy,” said Compton. “For me, it is the ultimate reward.”
The two-day trip included a tour of the facility and a meeting with the human resources manager at Toyota. Joining Compton on the trip were Professor John Maynard and Adjunct Instructor Keith Wright.
“Our students are excited about the opportunity of entering the workforce,” said Compton. “I believe Toyota embraces the kind of curriculum we teach. The credentials our students acquire, coupled with the eastern Kentucky work ethic, is very attractive to companies like Toyota.”
