Big Sandy Community and Technical College (BSCTC) held its inaugural College Advisory Council meeting last week.
“Strong partnerships with our community and industry leaders are essential to the success of our students and the future of Eastern Kentucky,” said Dr. Samuel Todd Brand, chancellor of BSCTC. “The College Advisory Council provides an opportunity to bring regional perspectives to the table as we work together to expand educational opportunities, address workforce needs and strengthen the communities we serve.”
The council was established following the passage of House Bill 619, which led to the dissolution of the boards of directors at colleges within the Kentucky Community and Technical College System (KCTCS). The new advisory councils will maintain regional representation and provide opportunities for community and industry partners to support their local colleges.
The BSCTC College Advisory Council includes community and industry representatives, as well as college faculty and staff. The council will support BSCTC’s mission to provide accessible, high-quality education and workforce training throughout Eastern Kentucky.
The College Advisory Council will select a chair and vice chair during its next meeting, which will be scheduled for the Spring.
