Platinum Tank and Big Sandy Community & Technical College Celebrate Successful Partnership and Growth in Pikeville, Kentucky

This collaboration, initiated in the summer of 2021, has provided training and employment opportunities for the local community, and contributed to the growth of the Appalachian Tank facility located at 479 Industry Drive, Pikeville, Kentucky.

Platinum Tank's CEO, Tony Roberts, recognized the untapped potential in the Appalachia area and approached BSCTC with a vision to assist in local recruitment and deliver specialized aluminum welding training. The first training cohort, consisting of 10 eager individuals, commenced their journey in November 2021. Over the next year, three additional cohorts were successfully completed by November 28, 2022, resulting in the training of 36 individuals. Remarkably, 95% of these trainees secured gainful employment, demonstrating the program's effectiveness in aligning local talent with industry demands.

The Appalachian Tank facility, which has been integral to Platinum Tank's expansion, celebrated a significant milestone on September 15, 2023, with the shipment of their 100th aluminum tank. This achievement highlights the facility's commitment to delivering top-quality products to its clients while contributing to the local economy. The partnership between Platinum Tank and BSCTC has played a pivotal role in this accomplishment by providing a skilled workforce trained in aluminum welding and manufacturing.

Today, Appalachian Tank boasts a workforce of 51 dedicated employees, with each member playing an essential role in the company's growth and success. The collaborative efforts of Platinum Tank and BSCTC have created employment opportunities and enriched the local community by fostering a thriving manufacturing hub.

The fifth training cohort, which began on August 28, 2023, signifies Platinum Tank's and BSCTC's ongoing commitment to nurture local talent and support economic development in Pikeville, Kentucky.

Tony Roberts, CEO of Platinum Tank, expressed his enthusiasm for the partnership, stating, "Our collaboration with Big Sandy Community & Technical College has not only enabled us to meet our workforce needs but has also strengthened the bonds we have with the Pikeville community.
