Eight area Spanish teachers representing six area high schools and two community colleges
met at Big Sandy Community and Technical College on Thursday, March 26 for a professional
development workshop on a Spanish language teaching tool known as LinguaFolio.
Presenters Jason Adams from Paintsville High School and Emma Price from Lawrence County
High School both presented on their use of LinguaFolio in the classroom. Each provided
demonstrations on how students have developed and demonstrated Spanish language skills
addressing required proficiency levels and both indicated they were impressed with
how their students have been actively engaged in learning through this technology
In addition to the presenters, teachers attending this event included: Remona Estep
from Magoffin County High School, Gloria Newsome from Floyd County High School, Maggie
Roll from Hazard High School, Tamara Kunkel from Knott County High School, Scott May
from Hazard Community and Technical College, and Sandra Saad from Big Sandy Community
and Technical College.
The Spanish Teachers Association meets five times each academic year for two workshops
and three Spanish-language dinners to support each other in their use of the Spanish
