Dr. Charles V. Chrestman has been named interim president and CEO of Big Sandy Community
and Technical College (BSCTC), effective January 12.
Dr. Chrestman retired as president of Robeson Community College (RCC) in Lumberton,
N.C., where he served from 2003-2013. Prior to that, he spent 27 years in various
positions, including vice president for instruction and chief academic officer, at
Itawamba Community College in Fulton, Miss. He replaces Dr. George D. Edwards, who
spent 14 years at BSCTC and announced his retirement effective June 30, 2015. He will
serve as Kentucky Community and Technical College System (KCTCS) interim chancellor.
I am confident Dr. Chrestman will provide strong leadership during this period of
transition at Big Sandy Community and Technical College, said Dr. Jay Box, president-elect
of KCTCS. He has spent most of his professional career at community colleges and he
will be a good fit for BSCTC.
Dr. Chrestman has a bachelors and a masters degree in mathematics from Delta State
University. He has a doctorate in educational leadership from the University of Mississippi.
During his career at RCC, Dr. Chrestman led more than $12 million in construction
and renovation projects. Additionally, he secured more than $20 million in grants
and sponsored projects; more than $5 million was invested in technology and equipment;
new programs were added; and enrollment more than doubled at the college.
