Anthony Newberry named interim president of Big Sandy

Dr. Jay Box, president of the Kentucky Community and Technical College System (KCTCS) announced today that Dr. Anthony Newberry will become interim president/CEO of Big Sandy Community and Technical College (BSCTC) July 1. 

Newberry is a former president of two KCTCS colleges – Jefferson Community and Technical College and Ashland Community and Technical College. He retired from Jefferson in 2015 after 13 years as president. He also served as chancellor of KCTCS and dean of academic affairs at Southeast Kentucky Community College. He has 39 years of community college leadership experience. Newberry started his teaching career in 1976 at Jefferson Community College, where he taught history. 

“I’m so pleased that Dr. Newberry agreed to serve as interim president at Big Sandy,” Box said. “His wealth of experience in our system is a huge plus for the college. We are very fortunate to have someone of his caliber lead the college as we continue to search for a new president. 

“I also want to thank Dr. Alan Scheibmeir for his leadership. We appreciate his service to Big Sandy and KCTCS.”
